About Us

Gallerist Bean Blackett and Artist Matthew Peck opened the doors of The Blackett-Peck Gallery in April 2010. Blackett and Peck, both whom possess strong ties to the art world, recognized an unfulfilled niche in the galleries of New Orleans: interesting, high-quality, contemporary art on the 500 block of Royal Street, the city’s most well-known stretch of galleries and antique shops.

Art is created for two major reasons: to express the thoughts and feelings of their creator, and to bring beauty into the world. Self-expression and aesthetic beauty are both central to the human condition, and while the two are not mutually exclusive, many artists decide to make work that is either “serious and intellectual” or “pretty and desirable.” At the Blackett-Peck Gallery, we strive to showcase artists whose work is both meaningful and beautiful. We have a roster that features both New Orleans-based and international artists, several of whom we represent exclusively. Their work is varied in media, size, and subject matter, but all of it deals with the parts that make up the whole, and the mystery of the unknown.

We look forward to assisting you in all of your art acquisitions and building a long-standing relationship with you. Please enjoy our catalog, and do not hesitate to call or email us with any questions you may have.
