With the reopening of The Joy Theater, entertainment returns to the upper-end of Canal Street. Live music, comedy, and theatrical productions are all part of the vision. Additionally, there are plans to create unique productions that highlight the heritage of New Orleans culture. Musical productions highlighting R&B, Jazz, Gospel, and productions about New Orleans will be featured throughout the year and upon special request. “New Orleans and Canal Street both have a rich history. We want to make sure locals have the opportunity to appreciate it and tourists can enjoy it,” said spokesperson Sandie McNamara. Re-opening in December 2011 after a complete renovation. The Joy will feature a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, a built-in stage, on-sight dressing rooms and a flexible seating plan on the first floor. The balcony seating has been retained and will have 250 permanent seats. The entire venue will be able to hold up to 900 guests. Box office opens two hours before show time. |
