Local Coalition Says Routes to NOLA Schools Not So Safe
May 20th, 2011
The KidsWalk Coalition recently released a report indicating that 60 percent of New Orleans areas lack safe environments for walking and bicycling to school. The report features results from nearly 175 miles of streets and sidewalks near public elementary and middle schools. Partners of The KidsWalk Coalition are urging the City to make New Orleans streets and sidewalks safer by improving busted concrete, wheelchair-accessible ramps, crosswalk markings and flashing school zone signs that no longer correspond to hours of operation. Read more about the coalition’s report. For more information about The KidsWalk Coalition, visit www.kidswalknola.org.
