Consumer Product Safety Commission Puts an End to Drop Side and Unsafe Baby Cribs
Activism & Community, Family & Friends, Health & Medical
June 28th, 2011
Detaching drop sides, collapsing mattress supports, loosening hardware, and breaking spindles and slats on infant cribs are now a thing of the past. As of June 28, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is implementing new crib safety regulations that prohibit the sale of dangerous traditional drop side cribs and put stricter guidelines for crib manufacturing in place. These new standards were approved in December 2010 as part of a joint effort of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and a non-profit advocacy organization, Keeping Babies Safe, to prevent crib-related injuries which have claimed the lives of 32 infants since 2000. Click here for details on the new crib safety standards.
