Bountygate: Only the New Orleans Saints Being Punished for Gregg Williams' Sins?
March 24th, 2012
Thus far, only the New Orleans Saints are being punished for the Gregg Williams fiasco known as Bountygate. However, it has been widely reported that Williams carried out the same program with Washington.
“Gregg came in and dropped $15,000 on the (table) and said, ‘Brad Johnson doesn’t finish this game. This is Wednesday and the money will go up later in the week. It could double or triple by the end of the week,’ “ an anonymous player told WJFK-FM this week. “A couple of guys kinda got excited. (Defensive line coach) Greg Blache said, ‘If you get fined, it will be taken care of.’ “
Shouldn’t Saints fans be asking the question: Why is the Redskins organization being given a pass in this while New Orleans has been drawn and quartered?
Is is possible that it was just going to be too much work to go back and investigate what happened during Williams’ Redskins tenure?
Is it possible that the NFL is loathe to investigate a Hall of Fame, legendary coach like Joe Gibbs?
Would the political fallout from that be too severe for Roger Goodell?
If you’re interested in seeing how incensed the Redskins fanbase can get from asking tough questions, please visit this article that I posted on the subject and by all means, join in the lively discussion taking place.
Suffice it to say, I am not getting much support from Redskins fans for asking these questions.
Ultimately, it comes down to a matter of fairness. Should the Saints alone be punished for a program that Gregg Williams carried out not only in New Orleans but in Washington and possibly in Buffalo as well?
