Each morning, I like to start the day off with a workout—usually a morning jog. I can clear my head, plan my day, and think about what’s going on around the NFC South.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints sent quarterback Drew Brees a new contract proposal, but Mike Triplett of The Times-Picayune said sources tell him no deal is imminent.
New Orleans signed Luke McCown and Joe Banyard, according to The Times-Picayune.
The NFL wants to see the Saints practice tapes from Wednesday’s minicamp session, said The Times-Picayune. A skirmish broke out that was started when Curtis Lofton made contact with Chase Daniel. New rules governing contact in offseason practice sessions are very strict.
D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said that even though there’s lots of talk of screen passes and vertical passing, the Falcons still have a power running back, and that’s been their bread and butter in recent years.
New safety Haruki Nakamura isn’t very big, but has a reputation for toughness said Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer. Nakamura was called “real smart” and linebacker Jon Beason said Nakamura reminded him of former Panther Chris Harris “but with a lot more ability.”
Cam Newton said Thursday to NFL.com that he really didn’t think he was a “bad teammate” last year, he just wished he would have done some things differently.
Thomas Davis is progressing well from ACL surgery on his right knee and could contribute this year, according to the Associated Press.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Stephen Holder and Justin Pawlowski of 1010 AM split off their conversation about Greg Schiano and the team’s plans at linebacker and posted the podcast on the Tampa Bay Times website.
Blogger JoeBucsFan is excited that there’s a competition brewing between LeGarrette Blount and Doug Martin and harkens back to some comments from guard Carl Nicks where he praises Blount.
