The sun was shining, the breeze was cool, and the air was filled with the sounds of a brass band accompanied by dozens of tingling bike bells. On Sunday morning, a crowd gathered at Palmer Park to get in gear before rolling with the BikeEasy Second Line. The posse of pedal pushers followed a route that wound its way through the entire Uptown area. From Carrolton to the Riverbend, the Fly to Whole Foods, Magazine Street to Commander’s Palace, and St Charles to Freret – nearly 200 cyclists took to the streets to share their enthusiasm for cycling. Riders hailed from throughout the metro area, from as nearby as down the block to as far away as the North Shore. Along the way, the revelers intersected with Saints fans having balcony barbecue parties, photo-snapping tourists, and a hat parade. The 11-mile route was a great way to work up an appetite before parking at the bike valet at the Po Boy Festival, where the participants were greeted with celebratory beer at the end of their journey.
