Less than 24 hours after a substandard performance during the Saints’ 45-27 win over Detroit in the Superdome, Bush was working alone at the team’s practice facility, catching balls and doing whatever it takes to make himself better, according to wwltv.com.
“I have to find ways to correct mistakes and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Bush’s biggest problems against the Lions came on punt return, where he fumbled twice, losing one to Detroit that put the Saints’ defense against the wall at the New Orleans 15. He also lost one ball in the run game where officials ruled him down before the ball came loose.
“It was a matter of mental errors and allowing myself to try to do too much to make up for those mental errors.”
On Monday, during his session with the media, Head Coach Sean Payton said limited preseason work might have played a part in Bush’s under-par performance in the season opener.
“I know that he wouldn’t want to use that as an excuse, but the key is his health and being able to watch the tape here and work on the techniques that we’re coaching and make the corrections,” Payton said. “He has a high standard for himself, so I think he’ll respond the right way.”
