If you happen to see a middle-aged man with long hair and a white robe walking barefoot through St. John Parish, Kid Rock is either really disoriented after a spa treatment, or you’ve found “the Jesus guy,” real name Carl James Joseph, an itinerant preacher who loves J.C. so much, he has decided to live like him. He travels from community to community, church to church, preaching about Jesus, usually walking the whole way. He says he doesn’t arrange lodging ahead of time, and if he’s not offered a place to stay, he prays through the night.
Brother James Joseph, as he calls himself, has been attracting a lot of attention in our neck of the woods since he came down here on Monday from Philadelphia. The Times-Picayune published a profile of him today. When he arrived, he attended morning services at a church in Reserve, and walks daily to a chapel in LaPlace, the article says. James Joseph has gotten some jeers, which he defuses with a wave and a “God bless you,” but for the most part the reaction has been positive. One woman thought she was having a vision when she saw him:
“‘I felt like God was sending angels in our presence,’ said Diane Sudkamp, 60, of LaPlace.”
