Mayoral Candidate Perry Raises 100k Through Small Donors

On the same day President Obama visited New Orleans, Mayoral candidate James Perry announced that his upstart campaign has already amassed over $100,000 using an Obama-style approach to fundraising. This significant fundraising benchmark was achieved through over 700 donations and nearly 600 individual donors.
“This is just the beginning,” said Perry. “People in New Orleans are ready for a change. It’s time to put progress ahead of politics and put a fresh face in the mayor’s office.”
The sheer number of donors is a credit to Perry’s Obama-style approach to online fundraising and organizing and shows that Perry’s focus on cleaning up crime and corruption has resonated with people from all walks of life. Perry has already raised more money than the other two announced candidates combined.
Unlike other candidates who write themselves big checks to inflate their fundraising numbers, Perry’s fundraising success is thanks to the growing number of people who believe he is the best choice for mayor.
“Other candidates might be running for special interests or for self-interest, but I’m running to change our city for the better,” said Perry.
A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Perry is a nonprofit executive who has the executive experience needed to navigate city hall and the courage to fix what needs to be fixed. He has a record of building coalitions, building organizations, and making a real difference in people’s lives, whether it’s helping homeowners, fighting discrimination or standing up to politicians and exposing corruption. Perry led the effort to get the residents of New Orleans paid what they are due from the Road Home Program. His efforts mean that tens of thousands of New Orleans residents from every part of the city getting more funding for rebuilding.
Recently, Perry’s campaign and his work as a nonprofit executive have attracted national attention from the New York Times, The Nation magazine, the Huffington Post, and Jet-Ebony magazine.
Perry said, “We know what the issues are – public safety and education, rebuilding our homes and neighborhoods, strengthening our economy. The question isn’t what issues we face but who will get it done. When people in every neighborhood tell me that they’re afraid to leave their house at night, that means we’re not doing enough to fight crime in New Orleans and I’m here to tell you that I will fix what needs to be fixed, and we will make New Orleans great again.”
