im not even a skater.
but have always been stigmatized.. in much the same way..
for simply doing my own thing.
for this reason..i can relate to em.. and wanna support their being able to have somewhere to be themselves.. and develop their craft.. or simply HAVE FUN.
i noticed this pseudo skate park.. and wondered who was behind it..
i truly wish i had more money.
id really try to expand the park into something more inviting.. with more to offer.
i challenge the people of new orleans to do something DIFFERENT and help these kkids to develop this into a serious skate park.
kick push - kids...
NOYO, thanks for the support. My son is behind the "Sunday Jams" he arranges when the weather is right. This one was at S. Saratoga and Napoleon. He brings a grill, some ramps, some prizes and the kids come out and have a blast. Of course, if there were attention drawn to it, they'd probably get kicked out, something he has dealt with all his life. I love these kids and their determination to skate. You are so right that there is no place for them to go, and, no one seems the least bit interested in fostering the craft. But I'll tell ya, when my son does have his informal skate jams, there are about 20-25 kids off the streets, exercising, fostering friendships and supporting each other as they work hard to land that trick!
I appreciate your support. And, follow your bliss as Joseph Campbell said!
