World conference on deltas to be held in New Orleans next year

November 5th, 2009  1 Comments

Officials say a world conference on deltas will take place in New Orleans next autumn.

The international forum is billed as the inaugural meeting of the World Delta Dialogues. The forum’s organizers say politicians and scientists from around the world will discuss how to save the world’s deltas.

The America’s WETLAND Foundation has partnered with The Royal
Netherlands Embassy and The Nature Conservancy to hold an executive
planning session on November 5, 2009, in Washington, D.C. to discuss
the focus and issues to be included in the first World Delta Dialogue
be held in the fall of 2010.

Deltas and estuaries are among the most productive and the most
threatened ecosystems on earth. As such, there is an unprecedented
urgency for collaboration across deltaic regions of the world to share
technology, develop intellectual capital and build knowledge about
sustainable deltaic systems.

The inaugural World Delta Dialogue will be convened in the Mississippi
River Delta in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2010. Experts in engineering,
science, environment, commerce, culture, socio-economic studies and
research will join governmental leaders from major deltas throughout
the world to share challenges and solutions to sustainability issues
unique to deltaic regions.

For more information about the World Delta Dialogues or to attend the planning session, contact us at americaswetland@mcopr.com.

The conference is scheduled to take place Oct. 18-20, 2010.
