Confetti in the Sky at Canal and Solomon
February 14th, 2010
Oh, it was a most beautiful day today. I woke up, had coffee, applied glitter to holiday dress, and then headed out on the bicycle. It was sunny with blue skies, and it felt good to be alive. I spent most of the day at parades, catching throws from a semi-famous person or two and a zillion krewe members. The bike meant I was free to zip around the city to hang with all kinds of people, from the Uptown crowd and its sorority sisters to Mid-City lesbians and their kids, to the I-was-in-that-band-when-I-was-a-kid and the hipsters, finishing off with the drunk tourist crowd. I love how many ways there are to celebrate carnival, and that the bike lets me ride through so many of them. I took this picture of confetti falling from the sky, spewed from a truck announcing the approaching parade. I just love the blue, blue sky and the festivity blowing through. Yep, it’s still Mardi Gras, and yep, I’m having a really, really good time. Five more parades tomorrow–I best get myself to bed.
